FTUI Prepares Basic Physics Practicum for Undergraduates at i-CELL for the 2024/2025 Academic Year

On Monday (13/05), the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) held a coordination meeting to prepare for the Basic Physics practicum for the 2024/2025 academic year. The meeting discussed various important aspects to ensure the smooth running of the Basic Physics practicum. The practicum for undergraduate students is planned to take place on the 7th floor of the i-CELL building.

Ir. Jaka Fajar Fatriansyah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., the laboratory coordinator, presented the future roadmap for the physics laboratory. “The Basic Physics practicum at i-CELL will include two modes: hybrid and conventional, with all activities conducted in English. In the previous semester, FTUI held a 10-week physics practicum for the first time, with 14 modules involving 67 students in Mechanics Physics and 58 students in Electricity Physics. The number of participants is expected to increase significantly in the upcoming semester, with an estimated 120 KKI students and 1,000 regular students.”

Furthermore, Dr. Jaka provided an evaluation of the previous practicum, which received positive feedback, such as the 7th-floor room in i-CELL being adequate and a high level of satisfaction from students and lab assistants. However, there were some challenges, such as insufficient air conditioning, lockers without locks, and the need for more professional lab management, especially in aspects of K3L (Occupational Health and Safety and Environment).

The Basic Physics practicum in the new academic year is expected to see a tenfold increase in student numbers. The previous practicum for the International Special Class (KKI) students cost Rp122,273,800, while the projected cost for the upcoming practicum is budgeted at Rp431,921,600. Currently, the 7th floor of the i-CELL has been fully prepared, and three SOPs have been established: Scheduling, Usage, and Laboratory Borrowing for Practicum and Research.

In a separate meeting, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, Dean of FTUI, stated that this initiative is a significant step in improving the quality of education at FTUI, “By opening the Basic Physics practicum at i-CELL, we can better control the quality of practicum activities and ensure that students have the best facilities to support their learning process. With full collaboration and support from all parties, it is hoped that the physics practicum at i-CELL will run smoothly, providing an optimal learning experience for students,” said Prof. Heri.

Also, present at the meeting were Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs; Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., Head of the Unit for Education Modernization, Planning, and Supervision; Dr. Muhamad Sahlan, S.Si., M.Eng., Head of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Unit; Dr. Nyoman Suwartha, S.T., M.T., M.Agr., Education Manager; and Dr. Imam Jauhari Maknun, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Head of the Procurement and Logistics Office.
