To expand its network of international partnerships, the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) held a meeting with delegates from the University of Exeter on Thursday (27/06). The meeting took place at the FTUI Dean’s Building and was led by the Head of the FTUI International Office, Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Komarudin, ST., M.Eng., Head of the Industrial Engineering Department, and Dr. Zulkarnain, S.T., M.T., Secretary of the Industrial Engineering Department.
The delegation from the University of Exeter included Professor Stuart Bearhop, Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor, Global Engagement, Faculty of Environment, Science, and Economy, and Rachel Jones, Head of Global Partnership. During the meeting, both parties discussed the potential collaboration in the form of a Double Degree (DD) program, specifically focusing on finalizing the curriculum mapping for the Industrial Engineering study program. The proposed DD scheme is 2+2, where students will spend two years studying at FTUI and the next two years at the University of Exeter.
The tuition fee for the DD program at the University of Exeter is proposed at GBP 29,000 per year, with a collaboration scholarship offering a 10% reduction in the tuition fee. “The University of Exeter also provides accommodation both on and off-campus, with priority given to first-year and international students. The University of Exeter also offers pre-sessional English classes in the form of an intensive six-week course. This aims to help international students with language and academic adjustment before starting the regular semester,” said Rachel.
The academic schedule at the University of Exeter consists of two semesters: the first semester starts in early or mid-September until early January, and the second semester runs from January to June. The University of Exeter is also open to the Fee-Paying Study Abroad scheme for Single Degree students, with tuition fees of around GBP 11,850.
Concluding the meeting, Fadhilah outlined some follow-up points. “Following up on this meeting, the University of Exeter will provide further confirmation regarding scholarships for the Double Degree and tuition fees for studying abroad. Meanwhile, the FTUI Industrial Engineering Department will confirm the minimum GPA required for this program and inform the relevant parties,” he said.
In response to the meeting, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., stated, “The Faculty of Environment, Science, and Economy is the largest faculty at the University of Exeter, UK. Strengthening academic collaboration between FTUI and the University of Exeter will certainly provide broader opportunities for FTUI students to gain international study experience and enhance their competencies on the global stage.”
