The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), once again received significant support from its alumni community through the FTUI Roosseno Cup VIII Charity Golf Tournament, organized by the Golfers Alumni FTUI (GiFT UI) at the Damai Indah Golf BSD Course, South Tangerang, on Sunday (November 2). The lively and camaraderie-filled charity event successfully raised a total donation of IDR 850 million, consisting of IDR 650 million for the Mata Air Biru Foundation (MAB) Scholarship Fund and IDR 200 million for the FTUI Endowment Fund.
The name “Roosseno” honors Prof. Dr. (HC) Ir. Roosseno Soerjohadikoesoemo, a prominent figure in Indonesia’s engineering history known as the Father of Concrete Construction in Indonesia and the first Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia. Inspired by his legacy, the tournament serves not only as a sporting event but also as a symbol of FTUI alumni’s commitment and contribution to advancing engineering education in Indonesia.
The event was attended by several University of Indonesia leaders, including UI Rector Prof. Heri Hermansyah and FTUI Dean Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, along with hundreds of alumni from various generations. This year’s tournament brought together 144 golfers from cohorts ranging from the 1970s to the 2000s, all participating with enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and solidarity.
The Tournament Chairperson, Adi Pamungkas, shared that this year’s FTUI Roosseno Cup was special as it marked the first direct collaboration between GiFT UI and FTUI as the parent institution. “This year, we are committed to strengthening our partnership with FTUI. Through this tournament, we aim to directly contribute to the faculty’s programs, one of which is supporting the FTUI Endowment Fund. Alhamdulillah, this year we successfully raised IDR 200 million for that purpose,” said Adi, an alumnus of the Industrial Engineering class of 2004.
In addition, GiFT UI continued its partnership with the Mata Air Biru Foundation, an organization that manages scholarship programs for FTUI students. “As in previous years, we have collaborated with the Mata Air Biru Foundation to channel educational support to FTUI students. This year, Alhamdulillah, we raised IDR 650 million,” Adi added.
FTUI Dean Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan expressed his appreciation and pride for the alumni’s outstanding contributions through this event. “May this event serve as renewed inspiration for all of us as part of the FTUI family. With a spirit of sportsmanship and togetherness, this event ran smoothly and brought significant benefits — both for participants and for the faculty’s advancement,” said Prof. Kemas.
He also emphasized the importance of alumni support in sustaining FTUI’s strategic programs, particularly in resource development and expanding access to education. “The active participation of alumni in initiatives like this is a tangible form of contribution to campus development. Support for endowment and scholarship programs will serve as a strong foundation for FTUI in nurturing outstanding engineers with integrity and impact for the nation,” he concluded.
GiFT UI Chairperson Sehat Maulana (Lana) noted that this event also served as a valuable networking and cross-generational gathering. “We aim to bridge the gap between alumni generations so that they can get to know and support one another — both professionally and in their service to our alma mater,” he said.
Beyond its charitable and networking purposes, the event also carried a moment of reflection through a heartfelt message delivered by Damiyanti Roosseno, the youngest daughter of Prof. Roosseno Soerjohadikoesoemo. She reminded attendees of the importance of honesty — a core value her father instilled in Indonesia’s engineers. “My father’s message was always the same: uphold honesty so that the people do not suffer. This value must continue to guide us in every work and in every leadership role,” she stated.
