FTUI Students Initiate Business Ideas as Food Diversification Efforts in Indonesia

The team from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (DTI FTUI) won second place and best poster in the Business Plan Competition National Agritech Festival and Exhibition 2022 which was held by the Agritechno Business Center, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya. The team is named Farsjal which consists of Ahmad Nauval Ariq MS (DTI 2021), Austin Andhika Siburian (DTI 2021), and Juni Fransisca Onggani Winata (DTI 2021).

The 2022 Business Plan Competition is a business plan competition which is one of the events in the 2022 National Agritech Festival and Exhibition (NAFTEX) series with the competition theme, namely “The Entrepreneur’s Strategy to Recover Economic Conditions in the Digital Era of Industrial Revolution 4.0”. In participating in this competition, Farsjal’s team beat more than 100 other teams from universities in Indonesia.

Farsjal’s team came up with a business idea called Mietato, which is a healthy potato-based noodle with minimal preservatives so it is healthier but less durable.

“Mietatoo is a Convenience Good (goods that are often purchased) so it’s easy to find. However, brand awareness must be the main focus when starting a business so that Mietatoo is more familiar with other products. Mietatoo’s basic ingredients are potatoes so raw materials are easy to obtain, such as from potato farmers or a potato distributor. Mietatoo is one of the efforts to diversify food in Indonesia.” he said.

The Mietatoo production process is carried out by the company PT Ajamie Sejahtera as a producer. The production process begins with the purchase of potatoes which are then sorted based on the freshness and quality of the potatoes. After that, the process will continue with peeling and cutting the potatoes. Then, the potatoes will be dried and after drying, the potatoes will be mashed and sieved. If the sieve is lumpy, it will be repeated to the smoothing process. After sifting, the result of the sieve will be potato flour which will be mixed with other ingredients. After it has been mixed and kneaded, the noodles will be ground and moulded into a square shape. After that, it will be steamed and then the noodles will be baked. The production process ends in the oven process. Then, the noodles will be packaged along with the seasoning.

The financial analysis of PT Ajamie Sejahtera also shows high business feasibility, with an NPV of IDR 905,571,251.00; IRR of 37.01%; with PBP in 3,667 years at a selling price of IDR 7,500.00.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU expressed his appreciation for this business idea by DTI FTUI students. “Congratulations on the achievement that has been achieved. This achievement certainly makes FTUI and UI proud. The business idea proposed by the team is a form of FTUI’s concern for food diversification efforts in Indonesia, with this hopefully it can have a good impact in inviting people to provide variety to food staples consumed.”
