FTUI Participates in the 2025 UI Community Engagement and Social Innovation Festival with a Series of Innovative Programs for Society

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) took part in the 2025 Universitas Indonesia Community Engagement and Social Innovation Festival, held from October 1–3, 2025, at the Universitas Indonesia Library, Depok Campus. This annual event serves as a platform for UI’s academic community to showcase various community service and social innovation projects that create a tangible impact on society.

Carrying the theme “SPARK-UI: Spirit of Active, Responsive, and Collaborative Engagement – For Indonesia,” the festival aims to provide a space for the publication of community service (Pengmas) programs, disseminate social innovation outcomes to the public, strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration, and serve as a forum for appreciation and inspiration among UI academics and partners in addressing social challenges.

During the event, FTUI presented an interactive booth featuring a variety of innovative community engagement programs conducted by FTUI lecturers and students. These programs included:

  • Installation of Clean and Healthy Drinking Water Units utilizing Reverse Osmosis (RO), Ultraviolet (UV), Bio-Alkaline, and Bio-Magnetic technologies;
  • Development of Stingless Bee Farming for ecological education and sustainable entrepreneurship;
  • Capacity Building Program: advancing the circular economy through communal technology solutions for optimal waste management;
  • Training Program “Water Resiliency for Elementary School Journalist-Scientists,” focusing on problem-based learning to foster early environmental awareness;
  • Grashof Incubator as a student innovation space for engineering and social entrepreneurship;
  • Development of Eco-Friendly Packaging to enhance the competitiveness of Batik Ayu Arimbi products in Yogyakarta;
  • Ragunan Pavilion FLONA 2025, a collaborative sustainable design project integrating architecture and environmental engineering; and
  • Menstrual Hygiene Management Program, aimed at raising awareness on reproductive health and environmental sustainability.

FTUI’s participation in this event reaffirms the faculty’s commitment to integrating research, innovation, and community service to create sustainable, technology-based solutions.

FTUI Dean, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation:

“Community engagement is a tangible manifestation of the integration of the three pillars of higher education at FTUI. We aim to ensure that every engineering innovation developed has real value and sustainability. Through this event, we want to demonstrate that engineering education is not only about laboratories and research, but also about how technological knowledge can directly address societal needs and challenges,” he stated.

Through its participation in the Community Engagement and Social Innovation Festival, FTUI reaffirms its commitment to continuously deliver research- and technology-based innovations that provide direct benefits to society. Cross-disciplinary collaboration among lecturers, students, and partners serves as a crucial foundation for building sustainable and impactful community service initiatives for Indonesia.
