The Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, celebrated its 59th anniversary on July 11, 2024. This milestone was commemorated at the “Gleaming 59 Years of the Department of Architecture FTUI” celebration at the FTUI Art Park on July 20, 2024. The event invited all Department of Architecture FTUI faculty members and their families, retired faculty members, alumni representatives, administrative staff, and students. The celebration included speeches, joint prayers, and a traditional tumpeng cutting ceremony led by the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng, IPU; Manager of Cooperation, Venture, and Alumni, Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto; Secretary of the Department of Architecture, Kristanti Dewi Paramita, S.Ars, MA, Ph.D; and Chairman of Iluni Architecture, M. Johan Nurbarok, ST. The event also featured a tour of the Final Project Exhibition and various forms of entertainment and cheerful competitions participated in by all attendees.
In his opening remarks, the Head of the Department of Architecture FTUI, Dr. Ir. Achmad Hery Fuad, M.Eng, stated that at 59 years old, the Department of Architecture has become the number one architecture study program in Indonesia according to the THE, QS, and ScimagoIR ranking systems. “This achievement is certainly something to be grateful for and a challenge to maintain in the future. One of the main focuses in maintaining this position is the continuous efforts by the Department of Architecture to increase international cooperation and collaboration, through the development of the International Special Class Programs in Architecture and Interior Architecture, involvement in educational activities with partner universities from various countries, research collaborations, and the participation of Architecture Department students in various national and international competitions.”
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng, IPU, also delivered a speech at the Gleaming 59 Years of the Department of Architecture event. He highlighted how the position of the Department of Architecture FTUI as an architecture study program in Indonesia demonstrates high quality, which is a valuable asset for accelerating the development of the Department of Architecture both academically and in terms of facilities and infrastructure through cooperation with various parties at the national and international levels.
“The global development of education also highlights the need for an interdisciplinary perspective. FTUI supports this development direction with the launch of the Interdisciplinary Engineering Department, which includes the Urban and Regional Planning study program involving faculty members from the Department of Architecture FTUI in various academic activities,” said Prof. Heri.
Prof. Heri also stated in his speech that the Department of Architecture, along with other departments at the faculty level, plays an important role in the grand effort to establish Universitas Indonesia, particularly the Faculty of Engineering, as an increasingly excellent and impactful institution at the ASEAN and global levels. Various strategic efforts need to be made, especially with the current challenges in the field of education. Prof. Heri provided several examples of these efforts, which have been implemented in developing the new Faculty of Engineering building, the Interdisciplinary Engineering (IDE) building, by forging various forms of cooperation with industry partners.
After the speeches, the Dean, along with faculty members, architecture students, and guests, toured the Final Project Exhibition area on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, UI. Deep appreciation was given to all the exhibited works, showcasing high quality in terms of knowledge, creativity, and craftsmanship. The exhibition has attracted individual and group visitors, including the general public, as well as students and faculty from national and international institutions. The Final Project Exhibition of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia is open to the public until August 16, 2024.
