IWK FTUI Hosts Collaborative Sashiko Workshop with Kaski Atelier

On Friday (August 15), the Ikatan Wanita Keluarga (IWK) of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), held a Sashiko Workshop, a creative program in collaboration with Kaski Atelier as the main speaker. The event took place at the Indosat Auditorium, IDE Building FTUI, and was attended by IWK members. This workshop was part of the regular IWK FTUI gathering series.

Sashiko is a traditional Japanese embroidery technique that combines geometric patterns with hand stitching to both strengthen and beautify fabric. In this workshop, Lathifa, the founder of Kaski Atelier, shared the philosophy behind Sashiko, demonstrated basic patterns, and guided participants to practice the technique firsthand. The workshop aimed to broaden participants’ creative insights by introducing a modern decorative stitching technique that can be applied to fashion and contemporary textile design.

The event concluded with a friendly gathering, the announcement of the best Sashiko creations, and the IWK FTUI arisan draw. Through this workshop, IWK FTUI and Kaski Atelier successfully created a space for creative exploration that connects technical skills, cultural aesthetics, and the entrepreneurial spirit of design.

On a separate occasion, Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed, “Collaborative workshops like this enrich participants’ experiences while strengthening creative networks. I hope initiatives like this continue and inspire culture-based innovation,” said Prof. Kemas.
