FTUI Students Win Futuristic Ideas Incentive Scheme Award at the 38th National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) 2025

A team of students from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) has once again made the university proud by achieving national recognition at the 38th National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) 2025—a prestigious competition organized by the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa), Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). The event was held from May 30 to July 31, 2025, serving as a platform for university students across Indonesia to showcase their innovative and futuristic ideas.

The FTUI team—comprising Faza Azizan Attuhrisa (Chemical Engineering 2024), Jason Lee Wijaya (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering 2024), Muhammad Yusuf Rafree Madyowinoto (Chemical Engineering 2024), Rafli Wahyu Pradana (Industrial Engineering 2024), and Petros Achilleas Xydias (Industrial Engineering 2024)—won the Incentive Scheme Award in the Futuristic Ideas Category (GFT).

Out of 1,590 registered teams, only 400 of the best were selected to receive the national incentive scheme award, and FTUI’s team proudly became one of them. Their project, titled “Renewable Energy Zone with Nuclear Power System Using Uranium, Thorium, and TRU Fuels,” proposed a sustainable nuclear-based clean energy zone concept aimed at supporting Indonesia’s energy independence and security.

The system integrates thorium- and transuranic (TRU)-based modular reactors with a Green Enabling Supergrid and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Through three main zones—energy production, research and control, and environmental buffer—the concept envisions a strategic pathway toward achieving Net Zero Emission 2060, while strengthening Indonesia’s role in the global energy transition.

This achievement was made possible under the guidance of Dr. Eng. Radon Dhelika from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, FTUI, who provided mentorship and supervision throughout the development of the team’s futuristic proposal.

The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the students’ outstanding accomplishment.

“The success of this team demonstrates that FTUI students excel not only academically but also possess a forward-looking vision in addressing national and global energy challenges. Their idea reflects the spirit of engineers of the future—innovative, sustainable, and dedicated to contributing meaningfully to national development,” said Prof. Kemas.

This accomplishment highlights FTUI’s strong commitment to fostering a culture of research and innovation among its students, reinforcing its position as a pioneer of sustainable technological solutions for Indonesia’s future.
