Students from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), together with the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), conducted an industrial visit to PT Krakatau Posco in Cilegon, Banten, as part of the Short Course program on July 23, 2025.
This year, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) once again held the International Short Course in Engineering – UI Creates, which took place from July 19 to August 17, 2025. The program was attended by 16 students from HKUST under the theme “Tropical Sustainable and Renewable Energy.”
The delegation was welcomed by Eka Mantri Saputra, Department Head of Public Relations & General Affairs at PT Krakatau Posco, who expressed appreciation for the academic visit. “We warmly welcome the students of HKUST and FTUI. We hope this activity provides valuable insights into the modern steel industry and inspires the younger generation to continue innovating in the field of material technology,” said Eka.
During the visit, the students learned about the steel production process across various plants at PT Krakatau Posco, from the initial stages to the final products. They also had the opportunity to engage in discussions with the company’s team regarding challenges, innovations, and opportunities within the global steel industry.
The visit was accompanied by lecturers from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (DTMM) FTUI, Timothy Alexander Listyawan, Ph.D., and Dr. Maya Putri Agustianingrum, who ensured that the students gained hands-on experience aligned with their academic competencies. Through this visit, students are expected to broaden their perspectives, bridge theoretical knowledge with industrial practice, and strengthen the synergy between academia and industry.
