Modirpen FTUI Holds Pre-Departure Briefings for Double Degree Students, Student Exchange, and Study Abroad

On Saturday (24/06), the Faculty of Engineering, UI, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) held a pre-departure briefing for students who are going to undergo a Double Degree, Student Exchange, or Study Abroad. This activity aims to prepare students before leaving and undergoing lectures at various foreign universities partnering with Universitas Indonesia. Based on the data obtained until June 23, 2023, 40 students participated in Double Degree programmes, 31 students participated in Student Exchange, and 21 students participated in fee-paying study abroad, with data that is still moving.

The activity began with remarks delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., as Deputy Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs. In his remarks, Prof. Yanuar emphasised the importance of honesty and originality in carrying out academic activities: “Academic honesty is the main foundation in pursuing a successful academic career. Therefore, we hope that students can continue to maintain academic integrity by avoiding cheating, plagiarism, collusion, manipulation of results, and others while conducting lectures.”

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., as the Head of the Education Modernization and Internationalisation Unit, delivered a presentation regarding a schematic overview of lectures abroad along with the preparations that must be made. “Currently, the Outbound schemes under the management of the Modirpen office are the Double Degree Programme, Single Degree Student Exchange, Single Degree Fee-Paying Study Abroad, Internship, Short Course, and Visiting Student. But today we will focus on preparing for the departure of students who took part in the Double Degree, Student Exchange, Fee-Paying Study Abroad, and 30 IISMA scholarship winners,” said Prof. Harinaldi.

Furthermore, Prof. Harinaldi explained the things that need to be considered before departure, including student status at SIAK-NG, visa and immigration applications, as well as accommodation confirmation letters. He also hopes that in the future, student parents will not worry too much about their children’s condition abroad so that students can learn to live independently.

In a separate place, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, said, “This Pre-Departure Briefing can provide important information to students, including regarding administrative procedures, travel requirements, financial arrangements, housing, and cultural aspects in the destination country. This activity allows them to prepare well before leaving, both academically and non-academically. This will help students be able to face the challenges they may face while abroad.”

This activity also invited the heads and secretaries of the departments, who were attended by Dr. Agus Sunjarianto Pamitran, ST., M.Eng.; Dr. Deni Ferdian, S.T., M.Sc.; Dr. Ir. Achmad Hery Fuad, M.Eng.; Dr. Bambang Heru Susanto, ST., MT; Dr. Ing. Mohammad Adhitya, S.T., M.Sc.; Dr. Abdul Halim, M.Eng; Dr. Abdul Halim, M.Eng; Dr. Ahmad Zakiyuddin, S.T., M.Eng; Dr. Dianursanti, M.T; and Dr. Zulkarnain, S.T., M.T., M.T., M.T., M.T., M.T., M.T., M.T., M.T., M.T.

In addition, several alumni and students who had finished studying in Japan, South Korea, Europe, and Australia were also present to share experiences and tips while studying abroad. The activity continued with a presentation and question-and-answer session for students who will carry out their studies in Australia by Ms. Merry Kurniati (WINIK Education) and University Duisburg-Essen (UDE) by Ms. Dita Adhitia (Mercator Office).

With the end of this pre-departure briefing activity, it is hoped that students who will continue their studies abroad will feel more prepared and confident in facing their new journey. So that students can go through lectures smoothly and get unforgettable learning experiences in a different academic environment.
