The Career Development Center (CDC) of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), in collaboration with Elnusa Petrofin, held the Petronfin Campus Visit event. The program took place on Thursday (March 20) at the Faculty of Engineering Auditorium (K301), UI Depok Campus, offering inspirational sessions to equip students with insights into career opportunities in the energy industry.
The event featured three keynote speakers who shared valuable perspectives on career development in the energy sector. Ferdiansyah, Director of Operation & Marketing, presented a session titled “Get to Know About Elnusa Petrofin and Our Graduate Trainee Program”, providing an overview of the company and the opportunities available through its trainee program. Dian Indra Bintoro, Senior Manager of Human Capital, delivered a session entitled “Sharing from Experienced HR to Build Your Career”, discussing strategies for career building and the selection and training process within the Graduate Training Program. The final speaker, Irvon Meydino, Manager of Chemical Marketing, explored the topic “Fast-track Career Development at Elnusa Petrofin”, offering insights into accelerated career paths. Through these sessions, students better understood how the energy industry operates, its challenges, and the career development opportunities available through Elnusa Petrofin’s Graduate Trainee Program.
Amid the increasingly competitive energy industry, fresh graduates are expected to possess solid competencies. The Graduate Training Program (GTP) is a strategic recruitment pathway organized by Elnusa Petrofin, designed to equip participants with intensive training across various industry aspects. This program not only hones technical and leadership skills but also introduces participants to the dynamics of the energy sector, preparing them to face professional challenges.
Irvan Medino, a GTP graduate who now Manages Chemical Marketing at Elnusa Petrofin, shared his experience working there. During the discussion, Irvan emphasized that the GTP offers outstanding opportunities for new graduates to gain firsthand experience in the industry. The program provides technical skill development and strengthens leadership qualities and broad business understanding. According to him, the experience gained through this program is invaluable and serves as a strong foundation for long-term career growth.
The GTP selection process involves several stages, from initial screening to psychological testing and interviews with company users. Successful candidates undergo leadership training at the Marine Corps Headquarters in Cilacap, in-house training covering finance, risk management, and occupational safety, and external training in marketing and finance. A key program component is the On-the-Job Training (OJT) in various divisions such as logistics, petrochemical operations, and technical marketing. The program concludes with a final project before participants decide on a career path as either a supervisor or junior manager.
Participating in the GTP also comes with its own set of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles is the heavy workload and high expectations from management. Many new graduates struggle to adapt to the industry’s fast-paced work rhythm and dynamic nature. However, according to Irvan, success in this program depends on integrity, courage, networking, and work-life balance. Integrity means remaining professional without supervision, while courage is essential to face challenges. Building networks with peers and mentors can open up career opportunities. Moreover, maintaining a balance between work and personal activities, such as social engagements or sports, is also essential to remain productive.
“This activity aligns with FTUI’s commitment to equipping students with industry readiness. We hope that more graduates will be able to compete and make meaningful contributions to Indonesia’s energy sector,” said the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D.
