The Chemical Engineering Student Association (IMTK) of the Department of Chemical Engineering (DTK) at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) is once again organizing the Process Engineering and Energy Days (PGD) 2024. The event will take place from April 26-28, 2024, and will be supported by several Student Chapters, including AIChE UI-SC, IATMI SMUI, SPE UI SC, and SBE UI SC. Having been held for over two decades, PGD has become a platform for students to compete, innovate, and build professional networks.
This year’s PGD carries the theme “Embracing Disruptive Innovation as a Catalyst to Cultivate a Greener Earth,” featuring four competitions and a United Nations event, which have been met with high enthusiasm from the participants. The main competition, a trademark of PGD, is the Chemical Product Design Competition (CPDC), won by Team Lacey, a delegation from Universitas Indonesia. Additionally, the title of the International Case Study Competition (I-CAST) was claimed by Team Tam, a delegation from the Bandung Institute of Technology. This competition involves multidisciplinary case studies that generate innovative ideas for solving chemical engineering problems.
Next, the Petroleum Integrated Smart Competition (Petronation) was won by Team Hyperion, a delegation from Universitas Indonesia. Lastly, this year’s PGD introduced a new competition, the Process Systems Engineering Competition (PSEC), which focuses on solving process simulation challenges that test core chemical engineering competencies. In its inaugural year, PSEC received support from Yokogawa Indonesia and KBC. The first-place winner of this competition was Team TMS Energy, a delegation from Universitas Indonesia.
In addition to the competitions, the event also featured the Student Energy Model United Nations (SEMUN), a simulation forum where students debate and negotiate global energy issues. This activity enhances participants’ negotiation and problem-solving skills while broadening their understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the energy sector. SEMUN was attended by various university delegations, encouraging students to seek solutions to pressing energy issues.
The Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at FTUI, Dr. Bambang Heru Susanto, S.T., M.T., expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the committee, participants, sponsors, and everyone involved in the event’s success, saying, “PGD 2024 has been conducted very well, in line with the spirit of the students and the university. We hope that through this event, students can enhance their competitive spirit and expand their networks among fellow students.”
On a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, shared his thoughts, “PGD 2024 is not only a competition but also a platform to share knowledge and innovation in the fields of chemical engineering and energy. Activities like this are crucial in equipping students with practical experience and professional networks that will be useful in the future. Moreover, the success of this event proves that FTUI students can actively contribute to solving global problems through innovation and technology.”

Bank Rakyat Indonesia, PT. Dow Indonesia, Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, PT. Aneka Tambang Tbk, Pop Hotel, and Forum Energizing Indonesia. With the success of this year’s event, PGD is expected to continue to inspire the younger generation to innovate and contribute to the development of the chemical engineering industry in the future.
