Prof. Riri Fitri Sari, Receives Honorary Professor Title from NPUST for Contributions to Global Sustainability

Professor at the Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Indonesia (UI) and Head of UI GreenMetric, Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, M.M., M.Sc., was awarded the title of Honorary Professor by the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), Taiwan. The award was presented by NPUST President, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Chin-Lung Chang, during the Celebrating Centennial NPUST, International Conference on Sustainability 2024, on Friday (November 15).

The Honorary Professor title was bestowed upon Prof. Riri in recognition of her exceptional contributions to global sustainability, academic collaboration, and outstanding leadership. Through the UI GreenMetric program—a world university ranking system focusing on environmental sustainability—Prof. Riri has inspired institutions worldwide to adopt environmentally friendly practices and proactively address climate change challenges.

Under Prof. Riri’s leadership, initiatives have encouraged universities across the globe to take preventive and adaptive actions against climate change, fostering a collaborative commitment to sustainability. Her vision and leadership have significantly impacted the academic community, promoting a forward-thinking approach to sustainable campus management.

Prof. Riri expressed her gratitude for receiving the Honorary Professor title from NPUST, particularly its focus on technology implementation for agriculture. “I am grateful to the university leaders supporting UI GreenMetric worldwide who consistently prioritize sustainability issues, especially Rector Prof. Chin-Lung Chang and his predecessor Prof. Chang-Hsien Tai at NPUST,” said Prof. Riri.

She also noted that this recognition marks her second Honorary Professor title, followed by KAZNAU Kazakhstan’s first award in 2017. “This is a global recognition for the UI GreenMetric movement, supported by more than 1,250 of the world’s most sustainable universities,” added Prof. Riri.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, stated, “The Honorary Professor title from the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology awarded to Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari is a recognition of her outstanding contributions to sustainability and innovation. As the Head of UI GreenMetric, she represents Universitas Indonesia and inspires the global academic community to realize a more sustainable future collectively. We at the Faculty of Engineering UI are immensely proud of this achievement and fully support her ongoing work that continues to positively impact the world.”

On the same occasion, an Honorary Professor title was also awarded to an NPUST alumnus and founder of the world’s largest antibody production company in the USA, Dr. (HC) Gene Lay of BioLegend.

During the conference, Prof. Riri also served as a keynote speaker, delivering a presentation titled “ICT-Driven Digital Transformation for Sustainable Campuses with UI GreenMetric.” “This topic is highly relevant amidst the collective efforts of higher education institutions to lead the way toward a sustainable future,” said Prof. Riri.

In her presentation, she highlighted the journey of UI GreenMetric, which has evolved from a ranking system into a powerful catalyst for driving environmental accountability among institutions while promoting digital innovation and sustainability in campus management.
