ProfCast FTUI episode 9 is back with a special guest. In this episode, Professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering, FTUI, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Teuku Yuri M. Zagloel, M.Eng. Sc. discusses industrial efficiency and effectiveness. In Prof’s research. Yuri leads to two main things, namely sustainability and digitalization. ProfCast episode 9 hosted by Dr. Ir. Hendri D.S. “My research focuses on digitalization which revolves around all-non-human robots, which also leads to the term “Industry 4.0,” said Prof. Yuri
With regards to Industry 4.0, surely many people think that human work systems will be completely replaced by machines. In addition, there will be a lot of unemployment and other worries. In fact, according to Prof. Yuri, this is not true because new fields that have emerged because of the development of the era will have their fields of work that still employ humans.
“Once we make an industry efficient using machines, the human role is still needed in other areas. In essence, how can a system make industrial work more effective and efficient,” explained Prof. Yuri.
From his research on digitalization, Prof. Yuri has a patent obtained from a collaboration with Toyota, which is the first laboratory in the Asia Pacific to apply the Toyota Production System. The system is known to have a high-efficiency level and no waste is allowed to be wasted.
Prof. Yuri also has a concern about the manufacturing system that is developing in the industry in Indonesia. The only question is, is Indonesia ready to accept automation, which will certainly happen in time?
Met on a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU said, “ProfCast is one of the FTUI programs to convey information to the Indonesian public regarding innovation and expertise of FTUI Professors and lecturers.
