RCBE FTUI Holds Seminar Series Discussing the Utilization of Laser Technology for Health

On Monday, (7/8/23), Research Center for Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (RCBE FTUI) held a Seminar Series with the theme “Laser Technology for Healthcare”, with the speaker Associate Professor of Bioengineering, Dr.-Ing., Azhar Zam. The seminar series took place in Smart Meeting Room Makara 04, FTUI Deanery Building. The seminar was also attended by participants from DTE FTUI lecturers, academics, and students.

The utilization of technology in the world of health is indeed the most interesting topic to discuss. So is the theme in this Seminar Series that laser light is an advanced technology that can be used to treat various diseases.

Dr.-Ing. Azhar Zam said in his presentation “Laser is a therapeutic method that has long been used for the treatment of various diseases, such as kidney stones, visual impairment, and even cancer. Laser is a powerful technological method to cut, burn, and destroy abnormal tissues in the human body. The utilization of lasers in medicine uses long waves with a focus to emit high light. This technology has been present for a long time and has become a method that can have a good impact on the treatment of various diseases.”

In this seminar, the Head of Biomedical Engineering Study Program, Dr. Basari, S.T., M.T., also attended, he said, “Nowadays, technology has brought convenience to various aspects of life. Primarily in supporting medical and health aspects. The utilization of light for laser beams is one example. It is hoped that this seminar will be a spark of enthusiasm to conduct other research in an effort to produce reliable technologies to benefit others.”

Met on a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, said, “The RCBE seminar series is a support to raise the spirit of new researchers in creating technologies that support the medical world. Examples such as light that can be used for laser beams in the treatment of various diseases can spark other innovation ideas. Of course, this innovation idea must have a superior and sustainable impact.”
