RUDN University Awards Honorary Professor Title to Prof. Riri Fitri Sari, Head of UI GreenMetric and FTUI Professor

RUDN University Moscow has awarded Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, M.M., M.Sc., Head of UI GreenMetric, the title of Honorary Professor in recognition of her exceptional contributions to promoting sustainability in higher education. This prestigious award makes Prof. Riri the first Indonesian professor to receive the Honorary Professor title from RUDN University.

Prof. Riri, who is also a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), received the award from the Rector of RUDN University, Oleg Yastrebov, during the 65th Anniversary Gala Concert of RUDN University, held at the Kremlin State Palace (08/02). More than 4,000 guests, including Russia’s Ministers of Education and Health, attended the event.

In her speech, Prof. Riri expressed her gratitude for the honour. “This Honorary Professor title is a significant recognition for me and the UI GreenMetric team. It stands as a testament to our collective efforts in promoting sustainability on campuses worldwide. I hope this award will inspire more universities to innovate and contribute to protecting our planet,” said Prof. Riri.

This RUDN University title is the third Honorary Professor title awarded to Prof. Riri. She received similar honours from Kazakh National Agrarian University (KazNAU), Kazakhstan, 2017 and the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), Taiwan, in 2024. These awards underscore the global recognition of Prof. Riri’s pivotal role in advancing sustainability in academia through UI GreenMetric, which she initiated.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for Prof. Riri’s achievement. “We are immensely proud of Prof. Riri Fitri Sari’s accomplishments. This award is an international recognition of her contributions, which not only bring honour to FTUI and Universitas Indonesia but also have a positive global impact on higher education in the field of sustainability. May this continue to foster future collaboration and innovation,” said Prof. Kemas.

In addition to Prof. Riri, the Honorary Professor title was also awarded to other international scholars, including Prof. Markus Tiemann (Germany), Prof. Rafael Luque (Ecuador), and Prof. Alessandra Ragusa (Italy), for their contributions to science and sustainability.

The award ceremony was held at the Kremlin State Palace, a historic site and UNESCO World Heritage landmark. The recognition reinforces UI GreenMetric’s mission to inspire future environmental leaders and strengthen international collaboration in sustainability.

Since its establishment in 2010, UI GreenMetric has evolved into a global university ranking system focusing on environmental sustainability. To date, UI GreenMetric has involved 1,477 universities from 95 countries, encouraging the implementation of sustainable practices and concrete actions to address the challenges of climate change.
