The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., accompanied the Rector of Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., in a Sharing Session organized by Universitas Andalas (UNAND).
Prof. Heri and Prof. Kemas served as speakers in the event titled “Management of Endowment Funds and Strategies for Achieving UI’s Global Rankings”, held at the Limau Manis Campus, Padang (25/07). “As a PTNBH (Legal Entity State University), we must cultivate a spirit of collaboration, not competition. Through this event, UNAND seeks to learn from UI’s experience and strategies in managing endowment funds and achieving global rankings so that we can strengthen one another and progress together,” said UNAND Rector, Efa Yonnedi, Ph.D., in her opening remarks.
This event served as a strategic platform for sharing UI’s experience in enhancing university governance, developing endowment funds, and improving global competitiveness. Prof. Heri explained that UI manages its endowment fund centrally to support the university’s strategic plans and foster synergy among faculties. The fund is sourced from sponsors, public donations, charity events, voluntary contributions, and partnerships with the private and banking sectors.
Prof. Kemas emphasized that managing an endowment fund not only strengthens the university’s financial foundation but also serves as a means to support the welfare of all academic members, including teaching and administrative staff. “A strong endowment fund creates strategic opportunities for the university, including long-term goals such as providing free access to education in the future. This aligns with FTUI’s vision to be part of a world-class, inclusive, and sustainable university,” he stated.
In addition, Prof. Heri highlighted UI’s focus on improving its international ranking performance. The presence of international students is considered a key indicator that directly enhances the university’s global reputation. To achieve this, UI implements weekly performance evaluations across various sectors to monitor progress and ensure strategic targets are consistently met.
Through this sharing session, UNAND gained practical insights into UI’s strategies for developing endowment funds and achieving international recognition. The collaboration is expected to strengthen relations among PTNBH universities and accelerate progress toward becoming world-class institutions.
The event was also held in conjunction with the Indonesian Vernadoc Camp 2025, which involved international student participation — a tangible realization of the ongoing collaboration between the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, and Universitas Andalas.
