FTUI Naval Architecture Hosts the National Consortium Meeting of Naval Architecture Study Programs

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), through its Naval Architecture Study Program, hosted the National Consortium Meeting of Naval Architecture Study Programs on Monday (July 21) at the I-CELL Building, FTUI. The event brought together Heads of Study Programs and Department Chairs of Naval Architecture from nine leading universities across Indonesia.

Participants in the consortium included representatives from Universitas Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), Universitas Jember (Unej), Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH), Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK), Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ), and Universitas Pattimura (Unpatti).

This meeting served as a strategic platform to strengthen synergy among study programs in responding to the challenges of higher education in naval architecture amid the rapidly evolving and globally standardized maritime industry. During the forum, participants agreed upon several key initiatives, including the establishment of the minimum Graduate Learning Outcomes (CPL) for the undergraduate (S1) Naval Architecture program—designed in alignment with industry needs, technological advancements, and both national and international accreditation standards.

Ir. Achmad Riadi, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., IPM, Head of the Naval Architecture Study Program at FTUI, stated,

“The formulation of minimum Graduate Learning Outcomes marks an essential step toward unifying the direction of naval architecture education in Indonesia, making it more adaptive to industrial dynamics and global regulations. This also serves as a foundation for accreditation and quality assurance in education.”

The meeting was also attended by Dr.Eng. Ir. Muhammad Arif Budiyanto, S.T., M.T., IPM, Deputy Chair of the Indonesian Institution of Engineers’ Naval Architecture Engineering Division (BKTP-PII), and Prof. Dr. Ir. Ario Sunar Baskoro, S.T., M.Eng., Secretary General of the Indonesian Mechanical Engineering Cooperation Board (BKSTM). Both emphasized the importance of cross-institutional collaboration between academia and professional organizations in producing excellent naval architecture graduates capable of competing globally.

“Synergy between academia and industry must continue to be strengthened. Naval architecture graduates must not only be academically proficient but also professionally and ethically competent as future engineers in the maritime sector,” said Dr. Arif Budiyanto.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.Ars., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the successful organization of the event.

“FTUI fully supports collaborative inter-institutional initiatives such as this consortium. Through this forum, we can promote curriculum harmonization, research collaboration, and educational innovation to produce competent graduates ready to face the challenges of maritime industry transformation in Indonesia and beyond,” said Prof. Kemas.

As part of its commitment to educational quality, the outcomes of this meeting will be communicated to the Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Teknik (LAM Teknik) and the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE) to reinforce the consortium’s role in promoting a standardized and high-quality engineering education system in Indonesia.

This consortium meeting is expected to further strengthen the position of Indonesia’s naval architecture education as a vital pillar in developing excellent human resources for the maritime sector.
