Three students from the Department of Chemical Engineering (DTK), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) represented Indonesia at the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) 2024 Education Week. Eviyanti Magdalena Siregar, Ibrenna Raissa Putri, and Yemima Elsaria Silangit, who are students from the 2020 batch, successfully became part of the 97 students from around the world participating in the international conference. Out of 1,000 applicants from various countries, 97 students were selected to attend the conference. Yemima and her colleagues were the only representatives from Indonesia.
IPTC is an international energy conference held annually in the Eastern Hemisphere. This year, IPTC took place from February 10-15 in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The theme for this year was “Inventing Solutions > Leading the Transition.” The conference aimed to provide students with insights into the energy industry. During the conference, students actively participated in discussions, case studies, and knowledge exchange with experts. IPTC also served as a platform to help students in their transition from being students to young professionals.
“During the 6 days in Dhahran, we were allowed to visit field trip locations in Techno Valley, such as Air Products, Baker Hughes, and NESR, as well as leading educational institutions like King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals. We learned about innovations in the energy field currently being developed in Saudi Arabia and the development and application of VR technology in the oil and gas industry,” said Yemima.
Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU., expressed support for FTUI students’ participation in IPTC. “The involvement of FTUI students in various international conferences is a valuable experience that we strongly support. They not only gain knowledge from the conference itself but also gain experience from valuable interactions outside the classroom. In addition to gaining a deep understanding of energy innovations in Saudi Arabia, they also establish relationships with industry professionals, expand their networks, and understand the global dynamics in the energy sector. This experience opens up opportunities for students to see the challenges and opportunities in the oil and gas industry firsthand, enriching their perspectives and making a positive contribution to the development of technology and energy sustainability in Indonesia.”
