Two New Vice Rectors from FTUI: Prof. Mahmud Sudibandriyo and Ahmad Gamal

The Rector of Universitas Indonesia (UI), Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., inaugurated four vice-rectors and two agency heads for the 2024–2029 term on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Balai Kirti, University Administration Center, UI Depok Campus. This inauguration was based on Rector’s Decrees No. 2744, 2745, 2746, 2747, 2748, and 2749/SK/R/UI/2024.

Two of the four inaugurated vice-rectors are from the Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia (FTUI). Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., was entrusted as Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, while Ahmad Gamal, S.Ars., M.Si., MUP., Ph.D., was assigned as Vice Rector for Planning, Finance, and Resources. Both have extensive track records in academia and university management.

Before serving as Vice Rector, Prof. Mahmud Sudibandriyo was the Vice Dean for Finance, Cooperation, Business Ventures, and General Administration at FTUI. He is also a senior lecturer and researcher in the Department of Chemical Engineering at FTUI, with significant contributions to the management of financial and human resources, the development of business ventures, and general administration at the faculty.

Ahmad Gamal has vast experience in planning and managing university resources. Before he was appointed Vice Rector, he served as the Director of the Innovation and Science Techno Park (DISTP) at Universitas Indonesia (UI). In this role, Ahmad Gamal successfully advanced innovation and cross-sectoral collaboration at UI.

In addition to Prof. Mahmud Sudibandriyo and Ahmad Gamal, Prof. Dr. Hamdi Muluk, M.Si., was inaugurated as Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, and Agus Setiawan, S.Kp., M.N., D.N., as Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Facilities. For the agency head positions, Dr. drg. Nia Ayu Ismaniati, MDSc., Sp.Ort(K)., Subsp. D.D.T.K., was entrusted as Head of the Cooperation and Entrepreneurship Agency, while Dr. Edmon Makarim, S.Kom., S.H., LL.M., was appointed Head of the Quality Assurance and Internal Oversight Agency. These new officials are expected to contribute to strengthening university governance.

In his speech, Prof. Heri Hermansyah emphasized the importance of collaboration to achieve the university’s vision. “Universitas Indonesia does not need a superman, but it needs a super team. With four vice-rectors, two agency heads, and two directors now inaugurated, we begin assembling and refining this super team. Hopefully, in the next five years, we can collectively advance Universitas Indonesia into a leading and impactful university for Indonesia,” said Prof. Heri.

The inauguration ceremony also included the signing of handover documents and the swearing-in of the new officials, led directly by the Rector of UI. On this occasion, Prof. Heri also expressed his appreciation to the previous vice-rectors and university secretaries for their dedication and service.

During the event, a symbolic handover of the Universitas Indonesia Endowment Fund amounting to IDR 350,000,000 was conducted by the UI Alumni Association (ILUNI UI). This fund, raised through the BNI—UI Half Marathon event, will be used to support the advancement of UI’s alma mater.

The event was attended by UI leaders, deans, vice deans, and strategic partners, including representatives from industry and financial institutions. Their presence demonstrated strong support for the new leadership at Universitas Indonesia.
