UI Racing Team Shines in International Competition: Brilliant Achievement with UIRT01 Formula Car

The fighting spirit of the UI Racing Team from the Universitas Indonesia (UI) proved unwavering in the international formula car design competition, “Formula Student Czech Republic 2023.” The competition, organized by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) International in the Czech Republic on August 7-12, 2023, was attended by 60 teams from all over the world.

Under the guidance of FTUI Mechanical Engineering Lecturer, Dr.-Ing. Mohammad Adhitya, S.T., M.Sc., the UI Racing Team fielded a formula-style racing car called the UIRT01 Formula Car. With a design and production period of only two years, UIRT01 achieved achievements in several categories at this competition, namely 7th place in Business Plan, 10th place in Cost and Manufacturing, 14th place in Engineering Design, and 13th Overall.

Formula Student Czech Republic 2023 is the 10th edition of the Formula Student Czech Republic competition held in the Czech Republic. The competition takes place at the Autodrom Most International Circuit. Formula Student Czech Republic 2023 challenges participants to design an international formula car, testing their formula car design, development and manufacturing skills. Not only that, this competition also involves business aspects such as research, design, manufacturing, testing, development, marketing, management, and fundraising.

The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, expressed his appreciation for the fighting spirit and achievements of the UI Racing Team in the FS Czech 2023 title, “The proud achievements of the UI Racing Team prove that FTUI students can compete and become racers, engineers, and racing sports industry players who are proud of Indonesia. This competition also provides an opportunity for students to develop a variety of skills, because here, not only the world of engineering is tested, but also an understanding of the business aspects.”

UI Racing Team’s outstanding achievement in this competition is inseparable from the technological research they did to design the UIRT01 Formula Car. Queena, one of the team members, explained, “The UIRT01 Formula Car that we designed and built carries the concept of an open-wheel racing car, with a lightweight tubular chassis construction, a suspension and steering system that suits the demands of the track, an aerodynamic body, and a 650 cc Kawasaki ER6N engine that we tune for maximum performance. Interestingly, even though this car was designed in just the last two years, we managed to compete with cars that have been around for a long time.”

UI Racing Team consists of 18 FTUI students, namely Allansyah Putra (Mechanical Engineering 2019), Ahmad Fauzan (Mechanical Engineering 2019), Rayhan Faturrahman (Mechanical Engineering 2019), Zedric Abetto (Mechanical Engineering 2019), Ogy Akbar (Electrical Engineering 2019), Joshua Prasatya Gani (Electrical Engineering 2019), Riffat Muntaz (Mechanical Engineering 2020), Arfadhila Pyrenadi (Mechanical Engineering 2020), Theodore Binsar Putra Simamora (Mechanical Engineering 2020), M. Ghifari Rizki (Mechanical Engineering 2020), Adib Haryo Sulistyo (Electrical Engineering 2020), Julian Jensen (Mechanical Engineering 2021), Putri Azzahra K (Shipbuilding Engineering 2021), Queena Lastama (Shipbuilding Engineering 2021), Ahmad Reyhan Palakka (Electrical Engineering 2021), Raja Putra (Mechanical Engineering 2022), Farhan Aditama (Mechanical Engineering 2022), and Akmal Zaki Ihsani (Mechanical Engineering 2022).
