Universitas Indonesia (UI) Racing Team has once again achieved outstanding success on the international stage. At the prestigious 2024 Formula Student Czech Republic (FS Czech), the student team from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) made significant strides, finishing third in the Business Plan Presentation, sixth in the Cost and Manufacturing Event, eleventh in Autocross, thirteenth in the Engineering Design Event, and achieving an overall ranking of thirteenth.
Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., expressed his appreciation for this achievement. According to him, the UI Racing Team’s performance has improved in the 2024 Formula Student Czech Republic compared to the previous year. “This accomplishment demonstrates the team’s commitment to bringing innovation and technological expertise in the field of automotive engineering, particularly in motorsports. The team has not only brought pride to Universitas Indonesia on the global stage but also showcased the ability of FTUI students to apply the engineering theory they have learned,” said Prof. Heri.
This success was guided by lecturers from FTUI’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, particularly Dr.-Ing. Mohammad Adhitya, S.T., M.Sc., was driven by the team’s technological research to design their latest race car, the UIRT-02. The car features several upgrades, including an aerodynamic body made of a Fiberglass and Carbon Fiber combination, a lighter carbon steel chassis, and a more reliable suspension system for improved manoeuvrability.
Akmal Zaki, the non-technical director of the UI Racing Team 2024, shared his pride in being part of the team. “I am extremely proud to be part of the UI Racing Team. As newcomers to this competition, the UI Racing Team has shown remarkable results with improvements year after year. Being the only team from outside Europe at FS Czech 2024 reflects our commitment to always giving our best effort in this competition. I hope the UI Racing Team will continue to bring forward the best innovations and achieve even greater success, making Indonesia, especially Universitas Indonesia, proud on the international stage.”
The UI Racing Team, consisting of 21 students from various FTUI departments such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Industrial Engineering, successfully collaborated to design and produce the race car. Team members include Arfadhila Pyrenadi Adam, Muhammad Riffat Muntaz Heidir, Akmal Zaki Ihsani, Muhammad Fadhil Maulana, Muhammad Danendra Zydean, Fairuz Fawwaz, Fabian Arie Yulvandi, Ignatius Cahyo Widhiasto, Razan Taqy Isyra, Muhammad Atha Zaidane Hamman, Zaahir Faizi Zuhrah, Achmad Maulana Althav, Jonathan Prasetio Sugiarta, Julian Jensen Purnomo, Elang Caesano Pratama Alingga, Sultan Alridho Putra, Zidane Utama, Khadeeja Zakia Mulyana, Nabila Fahira Mulya, Raden Jachregantravis, and Muhammad Abi Rafdi Aufar.
Formula Student is an international competition that challenges students to design, produce, and present a Formula-style race car. The competition consists of two main disciplines: Static Events, which include the Design Event, Business Event, and Cost Event; and Dynamic Events, which include races such as Acceleration, Autocross, Skid-pad, and Endurance. This year, the Formula Student Czech Republic was held from August 5–10, 2024, at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic and was attended by 63 teams from various countries.
Since its establishment in 2017, the UI Racing Team has continued to demonstrate a commitment to automotive technology innovation, achieving numerous accolades at both national and international levels. In addition to competitions, the team is actively involved in prominent automotive exhibitions such as the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) and the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), as well as community activities like the Morning Drivers Club (MDC).
