UTM & University of Indonesia (UI) Again Strengthen Education and Research Cooperation

It has been more than a decade since the first initiative for research collaboration between the School of Mechanical Engineering (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the time) UTM and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI). This year, there is another strengthening of collaboration and refreshment between the two parties. Prof. Normah Mohd Ghazali, one of the first lecturers of STM UTM who visited FTUI, in September 2022 returned to visit with three junior academics to continue the collaboration and maybe create new ones.

For 4 days, on 7-10 September 2022, the STM UTM group and the FTUI DTM team developed about the potential for collaboration between junior and senior lecturers of the two institutions as well as visits to the research laboratories involved. UTM currently has many up-to-date laboratories with indoor air quality, and refrigeration and air conditioning rigs in between.

Dr. Natrah Kamaruzaman, Dr. Wong Keng Yinn, and Dr. Muhammad Faiz Hilmi Rani, three junior lecturers from FTM UTM were given the opportunity to share their research work with postgraduate students from FTUI. Two hours of presentations and Q&A passed quickly during which they shared related knowledge in the areas of indoor air quality, microchannel heat sinks, and thermal management systems.

Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, FTUI, Dr. Agus Sunjarianto Pamitran and Professor of DTM FTUI, Prof. Idrus Al-Hamid has collaborated with the Air-Conditioning Engineering Research (ACER) research group at STM UTM since several years ago. This research collaboration includes joint supervision of postgraduate students and joint publications.

Prof. Norman also helped open up opportunities for collaboration between UI and Rennes University Institute of Technology for hotel development in the Bali or Lombok area with French entrepreneurs. This project was sourced from the Indonesian-French Embassy.

Based on the results of further discussions, several potential collaborations and collaborations between the two institutions have also been discussed and are ready to be implemented. Hopefully in the future the network relationship between DTM FTUI and STM UTM can continue and be sustainable with superior results and have an impact on the community.
