Visit of Udayana University to FTUI: Exploring the Management Strategy of Modernization and Internationalisation of Education

As one of the efforts to improve the quality of education, especially modernising education for the international arena, on Thursday (22/6) Udayana University (Unud) held a visit to the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI). Through this visit, the Unud delegation wanted to learn about the management of the modernization and internationalisation of education at FTUI, which is under the auspices of the FTUI Education Modernization and Internationalisation Unit (Modirpen).

The delegation from Unud, led by Prof. Dr. I Putu Gede Adiatmika, M.Kes., Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Cooperation, and Information, was welcomed by the FTUI, led by the two Vice Deans, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, and Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration. The visit from Unud took place on the 2nd floor of the Senate and DGB Meeting Room, FTUI Dean Building.

In his remarks, Prof. Yanuar said, “The education modernization and internationalisation programme at FTUI is one of the three leading strategies for Prof. Heri, Dean of FTUI 2022-2026, namely the modernization of Engineering Education. This strategy is manifested in the form of units of Modernization and Internationalisation of Education. This unit also oversees the FTUI International Affairs Office and is a partner of the UI International Affairs Office in managing and serving the student exchange process at FTUI. Apart from that, it will also oversee the modernization of education and how the internationalisation of education works at FTUI. It is hoped that this unit will give birth to The Future Engineers, who are tough and have a global perspective.”

“We are very pleased to be able to share experiences and knowledge with other institutions, and this visit is a valuable opportunity to learn from each other and strengthen collaboration between the two institutions. Modernization and internationalisation of education are very important for facing global competition in the world of education. Through this visit, we hope to be able to share the best practices that we apply at FTUI and learn about initiatives that have been carried out by Udayana University. This will help us identify new opportunities, improve the quality of education, and prepare students to face real-world challenges,” said the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU.

The Head of the FTUI Modirpen Unit, Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., explained the various things that the Modirpen Unit has done to improve the quality of academics and human resources through the Modernization and Internationalisation of Education Programme at FTUI. “We are the coordinators of Study Programmes and Departments to become international programme guides; of course, through this step, it is hoped that it will produce graduates who can be globally competitive and have a high impact.”

Prof. Harinaldi also explained that the programme carried out by Modirpen includes the fundamentalization of engineering education content, increasing intellectuality and developing engineering creativity, developing ecological thinking, humanising engineering education content, and developing professional skills and personal self-development to form tough engineers with a global perspective requiring innovative approaches and solutions for development. modern engineering education content, organisation, and process in an international direction.

The comparative study activity ended with an exchange of souvenirs and parties from Unud to FTUI. It is hoped that this comparative study can strengthen the collaboration between Unud and FTUI.
