To expand academic and research collaboration, a team from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), visited seven renowned universities in South Korea from May 9 to 14, 2024. During this visit, FTUI signed three cooperation agreements with Seoul National University (SNU), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), and Jeonbuk National University (JBNU). The FTUI delegation was led by the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering (DTK) FTUI, Dr. Bambang Heru Susanto, ST., MT.
The signed agreements encompass academic and research collaborations, including student exchange opportunities for the International Class Undergraduate Program (KI) and the Regular Undergraduate Program, as well as research internship programs in laboratories. These agreements also open scholarship opportunities for postgraduate programs and mobility programs for FTUI faculty members in research, proposal writing, and publications.
Dr. Bambang Heru stated, “Although the current focus of the Areas of Interest (AoI) only covers Chemical Engineering, we are optimistic that this collaboration can expand to involve all departments at FTUI. The collaboration in the field of chemical engineering will bring significant benefits to the development of science and technology for both the Department of Chemical Engineering and FTUI.”
The FTUI delegation also visited four other renowned South Korean universities: Yonsei University, Hanyang University, Kyunghee University, and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). These universities welcomed the opportunities for academic and research collaboration, especially KAIST and POSTECH, which are ready to offer joint degree schemes for the KI program. The addition of these partner universities for double degrees provides alternatives for KI undergraduate students, considering financial, distance, and cultural aspects. These two universities also offer dormitory facilities, tuition fee reductions, and potential additional scholarships through the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) program. Additionally, FTUI will develop cooperation for managing fee-paying study abroad programs with Hanyang University, which can be utilized by KI undergraduate students under a single degree scheme.
“We are very enthusiastic about the new opportunities for the KI program. Collaboration with these prestigious South Korean universities will not only enhance the quality of education but also provide students with broader global learning experiences,” said Fadhilah Muslim S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC, Head of the FTUI International Office.
FTUI Dean, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., expressed his hopes for this collaboration, “This visit opens up significant opportunities for FTUI students and faculty to engage in various international academic and research programs. Some FTUI alumni who have completed their master’s and doctoral studies in Korea have even managed to continue their careers there. Through this cooperation, it is hoped that more FTUI students and faculty will benefit from these international opportunities.”
Moving forward, FTUI will continue to strive to expand its network of international collaborations and improve the quality of education through partnerships with leading educational institutions worldwide. This effort is expected to position FTUI as a superior and globally competitive engineering faculty, capable of making tangible contributions to the development and advancement of technology in Indonesia.
