FTUI and Southwest Jiatong University Establish Educational Collaboration Regarding Fast Trains

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, received a visit from Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) in the framework of exploring cooperation in the field of transportation engineering and fast trains. The visit was made on Wednesday, May 10 2023, at the Senate Meeting Room, floor 2, FTUI Depok Dean Building.

The discussion discussed the possibility of collaboration between the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) and Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) in the field of transportation engineering and fast trains. This is a positive step for both parties. FTUI welcomes this collaboration and hopes to expand its knowledge and experience in the field of high-speed rail transportation.

Tianyou Railway Institute, as part of Southwest Jiaotong University, has an important role in the internationalization of education in the field of rail transportation and wants to collaborate with FTUI. FTUI has a great interest in establishing a special study program in the field of fast trains, but limited resources are an obstacle. Therefore, collaboration with other parties is needed.

Deputy Dean for Resources, Ventures and General Administration, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., gave a positive response to this collaboration. “FTUI is open to collaborating both in research and education with Southwest Jiaotong University. Hopefully, in the future, we can agree to develop a double degree program for bachelor, master and doctoral levels.”

“Currently, FTUI does not have a study program specializing in rail transportation. It is hoped that Southwest Jiaotong University can assist in the form of training for teachers in the high-speed training program. This will help FTUI in carrying out a double degree program in that field. It is hoped that this collaboration will bring benefits to both parties, both in developing knowledge and skills in the field of high-speed rail transportation and academic exchanges between students and lecturers,” said the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU.

Southwest Jiaotong University was represented by Li Hai (Vice Dean, School of International Education SWJTU), Xin Ling (Director, General Office, Tianyou Railway Institute SWJTU), Yang An Wen (Vice Dean, School of Foreign Language, SWJTU), Chen Hong Zhang (Chief, Section of Academic Affairs Office, SWJTU), Zen Ye (Vice Director, International Student Office, Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, SWJTU) and Xu Ying (Program Coordinator, School of International Education, SWJTU).
