ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women 2019

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has successfully launched the fifth annual ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women on 5 April 2019, in partnership with the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and its ASEAN-USAID Inclusive Growth in ASEAN through Innovation, Trade, and E-Commerce (ASEAN-USAID IGNITE) project and UL. The 2019 prize honors two women from the ASEAN working in the area of the “Circular Economy”.

Circular Economy is defined an economic system aimed at minimising, reusing and recycling waste and making the most of resources. Underpinned by a transition to renewable energy sources, the circular model builds economic, natural, and social capital.

The Science Prize is looking to award two talented young women, ASEAN-based, early to mid-career female professionals in applied science with recognition and monetary awards for their academic and professional achievements. The selection committee will award $20,000 prize to the woman scientist who demonstrates the best application of original scientific research to this year’s theme of the Circular Economy. A second prize of $5,000 will be given to the scientist whose application merits an honorable mention. The winners will be recognized at the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation (AMMSTI)in Singapore in October 2019.
