The Faculty of Engineering (FT) of Universitas Indonesia (UI) continues to demonstrate international achievements with its success in ranking 320th worldwide in the subject of engineering and technology in The Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS WUR) by Subject 2024. This position has improved from the previous year, which was ranked 335th worldwide.
Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., stated, “Based on the rankings released by QS WUR 2024, for the broad subject of engineering, FTUI occupies the 2nd position in Indonesia, 11th in Southeast Asia, and 99th in Asia. Remarkably, four study fields at FTUI are recognized as the best engineering fields in Indonesia in the QS WUR 2024-specific subject. Two of them, Chemical Engineering and Architecture, maintain their positions as the best study fields for two consecutive years. Meanwhile, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering have achieved the first rank for the first time this year.”
The four study fields of FTUI included in the best engineering studies in Indonesia are Architecture and Built Environment, ranking 1st in Indonesia; 10th in Southeast Asia; 64th in Asia; and 151-200th worldwide. Then, Chemical Engineering occupies the 1st position in Indonesia; 12th in Southeast Asia; 110th in Asia; and 251-300th worldwide. Next, Electrical and Electronic Engineering ranks 1st in Indonesia; 13th in Southeast Asia; 111th in Asia; and 251-300th worldwide. Finally, the study field of Mechanical Engineering successfully achieved the 1st position in Indonesia; 10th in Southeast Asia; 109th in Asia; and 301-350th worldwide.
“The success of the four fields of FTUI in achieving the highest ranks in Indonesia is tangible evidence of FTUI’s commitment to providing high-quality education and research. This is a proud achievement, and together we need to maintain this momentum and continue to strive for even greater and impactful achievements in the future,” said Prof. Heri.
QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 features 55 individual subjects grouped into several categories, including Arts & Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, and Natural Sciences. The number of institutions ranked this year is 1,559 with 64 universities newly joining.
The ranking of universities worldwide based on fields of study is determined by assessing five indicators: academic reputation, global survey results conducted among graduate users and academics, the number of research citations achieved by universities per paper in that subject (all citation data sourced from Elsevier Scopus), ‘H-index’ measuring the productivity and impact of published academic research, and the International Research Network reflecting institutions’ ability to diversify the geography of their international research networks by establishing sustainable research partnerships with other higher education institutions.
