FTUI Promotes Impact-Based Program Governance through SROI Training

Fakultas Teknik Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), through its Interdisciplinary Engineering Research Unit, organized a Social Return on Investment (SROI) Training on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at GK 208 Building, FTUI. The training was attended by Heads and Secretaries of Departments, Heads of Research Centers, Institute Directors, and Performance Contract PICs within FTUI as part of efforts to strengthen impact-based program governance and improve the quality of community engagement, social innovation, and the faculty’s strategic programs.

The training aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the concepts, methods, and implementation of SROI in supporting performance contracts and strategic faculty programs. It also sought to enhance participants’ capacity in measuring the social impact of programs and activities, while encouraging the implementation of impact-based evaluation within FTUI. Through this approach, institutions are expected to evaluate program effectiveness while demonstrating tangible impacts to stakeholders.

In this program, FTUI invited La Ode Abd Rahman, Head of the Community Empowerment and Social Innovation Subdirectorate at the Directorate of Community Engagement and Social Innovation, Universitas Indonesia, as the main speaker. Through presentation and interactive discussion sessions, participants gained insights into the fundamental principles of SROI, social impact measurement mechanisms, implementation case studies, and its application in supporting performance contracts and strategic program development within FTUI.

The training series was conducted interactively through presentations, question-and-answer sessions, discussions, and case studies on SROI implementation. Through this forum, participants were expected to strengthen their capacity in developing performance indicators that are measurable, sustainable, and oriented toward long-term societal impact.

In his remarks, the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of FTUI, Akhmad Herman Yuwono, stated:

“Through this training, we hope that unit leaders within the Faculty of Engineering UI can gain a more comprehensive understanding of the concepts, methods, and implementation of SROI, so that in the future they can support the strengthening of impact-based program governance as well as the development of more measurable and sustainable performance indicators.”

He further added:

“We also hope this activity can serve as a platform for discussion and collaboration across departments and research centers in building a culture of program evaluation that is not only output-oriented, but also focused on long-term benefits and impacts for society.”

Through the organization of this training, FTUI demonstrated its commitment to strengthening institutional capacity in developing programs that are not only academically and administratively excellent, but also capable of delivering tangible added value to the wider community. In addition, this initiative forms part of FTUI’s ongoing efforts to promote more accountable, measurable, and impactful higher education governance.
