Learn the Uniqueness of Construction Design, FTUI Civil Engineering Students Visit Jakarta International Stadium in North Jakarta

The Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is planned to be inaugurated by the DKI Provincial Government on June 25, 2022. This international sports stadium has a unique design and environmentally friendly technology. In addition, JIS also has a closed-open roof that covers the entire contents of the stadium. The JIS roof, with a frame weighing 3,900 tons, is claimed to be the heaviest and largest roof in Asia and even the world.

The uniqueness of the JIS steel truss roof attracted students from the Civil Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (FTUI) represented by the Structural Science Group to visit the Jakarta International School (JIS) in North Jakarta on Tuesday, 7 June 2022. The delegation from DTS FTUI consisted of 25 S1 and S2 students accompanied by 7 Lecturers of the Department of Civil Engineering, FTUI Dr. Ir. Elly Tjahjono, Dr. Ir. Yuskar Lase, Ir. Syahril A Rahim, M.Eng., Dr. Ir. Heru Purnomo, Dr.-Ing. Josia Irwan Rastandi, ST., Dr. Bastian Okto Bangkit S., ST., MT., M.Sc., and Dr. Jessica Sjah, ST, MT, M.Sc.

The delegation from FTUI was received by JIS, represented by the Stadium Development Project Manager, Mr. Arry Wibowo. In the presentation session from JIS, there was an explanation regarding the process of designing a soccer stadium structure which has a unique roof that can be closed mechanically when the weather conditions are rainy.

“The purpose of this visit is to conduct a comparative study to see the construction process of the JIS stadium, especially on the steel roof. It is hoped that students can gain additional insight regarding the implementation of the stadium structure construction, namely the simultaneous lifting of a steel roof truss with a weight of 3900 tons,” said Dr. Bastian.

Met on a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU said, “FTUI really supports field study activities for the FTUI academic community. We always support lecturers and students in activities to explore knowledge and knowledge directly. Hopefully, students in field studies at JIS will get information directly from sources and experience the results of their construction work firsthand.”
