The Ministry of Communication and Information through the Center for Professional Development and Certification of the Research and Development Agency for Human Resources, in collaboration with JICA and the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia held a national cybersecurity seminar with the theme “Today and Tomorrow’s Cyber Security Talent: Issues and Challenges”. The seminar is also held in line with the international cyber security community in welcoming “cyber security awareness month” in October every year.
Opened by Mira Tayyiba, Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Information, the seminar was held on Monday, October 24 at the Margo Hotel, Depok City. In her speech, Mira invited all parties to work together to produce cybersecurity experts who can answer today’s needs. “Increasing cybersecurity capacity not only increases the number but also produces world-class cybersecurity experts. To overcome cyber security to realize better national security and the growth of the digital economy.”
According to Mira, while increasing digital space users, at the same time, the threat to cyber security is also increasing. In 2020 malware and ransomware attacks increased by 358% to 435%, this is far beyond the ability of society to prevent or respond effectively. Citing data from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), throughout 2021 there have been more than 700 million cyber attacks in Indonesia.
“Indonesia needs and is at an urgent stage to have professionals in the cyber security field. The attack was dominated by traffic anomalies with the most anomaly category being malware. In addition, Indonesia is also in first place with the most ransomware attacks, in the ASEAN region throughout 2021 which is 1.3 million out of a total of about 2.7 million cases,” he explained.
Secretary General Mira Tayyiba admitted, to make all of these programs a success, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics involved many parties including industry, academia, and non-governmental organizations. “Through the collaboration of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Universitas Indonesia, we can see Penta helix collaboration to realize innovations that are supported by various resources that interact synergistically,” he said.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) in his speech appreciated specifically the program from Kominfo, especially in the field of education in creating digital talent through the Digital Talent Scholarships program. FTUI has also become a partner of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology in collaboration with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) to produce digital talents in the cyber security sector in ASEAN.
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology is committed to continuing to carry out a comprehensive digital skills development program from basic, intermediate to advanced levels. At the elementary level through the National Digital Literacy Movement, and at the intermediate level with the Digital Talent Scholarship Program. At the advanced level the Digital Leadership Academy Program to increase the capacity of digital policymakers or digital decision-makers in both the public and private sectors.
The national seminar, which was the result of collaboration with JICA and the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, also featured the Head of Research and Development Center for Human Resources at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Hedi M. Idris; Professor of Computer Engineering FTUI, Kalamullah Ramli; Plt. Director of Governance at the Directorate General of Aptika, Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Teguh Arifiyadi; Plt. Directorate of Cyber Security Operations (BSSN), Andi Yusuf; and CEO of Alumnia Advisor iCIO Community, Agus Wicaksono.
The seminar was held to increase public awareness of information security cases, especially in preparing competent talents according to industry needs. This seminar brings together multi-stakeholder speakers from government, education, community, and industry. The seminar is expected to broaden the perspective of participants in building the Indonesian cyber security ecosystem.
