The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) managed to rank 243 in the world in the subject of engineering and technology based on the QS WUR by Subject ranking. Currently, FTUI occupies the 2nd position in Indonesia, 11th in Southeast Asia, and 69th in Asia. Four FTUI fields themselves have successfully entered the ranks of the world rankings based on an assessment conducted by The Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS WUR) by Subject in 2022 (12th edition of the world’s top university ranking).
The four fields of study are:
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2nd Indonesia, 12th Southeast Asia, 75-91 Asia, 251-300 world)
- Mechanical Engineering (2nd Indonesia, 14th Southeast Asia, 85-105 Asia, 301-350 world)
- Architecture and Built Environment (2nd Indonesia, 10th Southeast Asia, 42-57 Asia, 151-200 world)
- Chemical Engineering (2nd Indonesia, 12th Southeast Asia, 80-96 Asia, 251-300 world
The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU expressed his joy and appreciation for the achievements of FTUI. “This achievement shows that FTUI is progressing and has succeeded in getting an award as one of the best engineering education institutions in Indonesia. Thank you for the contribution of the FTUI Academicians who have made FTUI a superior and impactful faculty in the field of engineering and technology and able to produce graduates who are globally competitive.”
In this ranking, the University of Indonesia (UI) won the best position in Indonesia through a superior rating in three broad subject areas and 12 fields of study. The three disciplines are Art and Humanities (5th in Southeast Asia, 200th in the world), Life Sciences and Medicine (9th in Southeast Asia, 348th in the world), and Social Sciences and Management (5th in Southeast Asia, 112 in the world). ). This achievement shows that UI as the best university in Indonesia has succeeded in being recognized by the world and is included in the ranks of superior universities among 1,543 universities from 88 countries, and 51 disciplines.
UI Rector, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, SE, MA, Ph.D said, “Of course we are proud of this achievement, but UI continues to push itself to be in the top five best universities in Southeast Asia. The collaboration of various kinds of knowledge available on the UI Campus is expected to result in the development of knowledge, invention breakthroughs, and various creative innovations that are beneficial for the people and the Indonesian nation.”
He added, “Every study program organized by UI, both vocational, undergraduate, and postgraduate education programs, is able to produce graduates who are globally competitive,” said Prof. Ari next.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 covers a total of 51 disciplines, which are grouped into five disciplines. This ranking was released by QS to help the public identify the leading universities in a particular science family and/or field of knowledge.
The ranking of universities in the world based on this field of science is determined based on an assessment of five indicators, namely academic reputation, the results of a global survey conducted on graduate users and academics, the number of research citations achieved by the university per paper in the subject (all citation data sourced from Elsevier Scopus ), the ‘H-index’ which measures the productivity and impact of published academic research, and the International Research Network which reflects the ability of institutions to diversify the geography of their international research network by building ongoing research partnerships with other higher education institutions.
