The Short Course UI–HKUST: Tropical Sustainable and Renewable Energy continued its activities in Bandung through a Cultural Program Visit held on August 14–15, 2026. The program was part of a cross-cultural experience for 18 students from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) during their participation in the program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI).
On Day 1, the participants visited Saung Angklung Udjo to gain a deeper understanding of Sundanese arts and culture. They watched traditional performances, learned about the angklung musical instrument, and had the opportunity to play the angklung together.
One of the HKUST students, Zi Xuan Huang, shared that the visit was one of the memorable experiences during the program.
“The visit to Saung Angklung Udjo was very interesting because I had the opportunity to experience Sundanese culture firsthand. I also enjoyed trying to play the angklung together with my friends. It was a different experience from learning in the classroom.”
On Day 2, the participants continued their journey to Ranca Upas. Located in a mountainous area, Ranca Upas offered the participants an opportunity to enjoy the natural surroundings and take part in various group activities. The visit allowed the students to take a break from their academic activities while enjoying the natural beauty of Indonesia.
According to Zi Xuan Huang, the trip to Ranca Upas was another memorable experience.
“Ranca Upas offered a different experience. We were able to enjoy nature, relax, and spend time together with our friends. I think activities like these make the short course more complete because we not only learn about technology, but also get to experience Indonesia’s culture and natural environment.”
Through the Cultural Program Visit in Bandung, participants gained not only academic experiences during the Short Course UI–HKUST, but also opportunities to explore Indonesia’s rich arts, culture, and natural beauty. The activities also encouraged interaction among the students and strengthened their cross-cultural experiences throughout the program.
