Supporting Innovation Research, FTUI Equips Lecturers with Information Regarding Intellectual Property Rights and Reverse Engineering Grants

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Unit of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Indonesia (FTUI) held a Training on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Socialization of Reverse Engineering Grants on Friday (22/03) at the Smart Meeting Room, FTUI Dean’s Office Building. The speakers at this event were Rani Nuradi, S.Si., the Senior Patent Examiner at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property; Krinayanto, S.H., M.H., CHCP, CLA., Sub-Director of IP and Promotion at the Directorate of Innovation and Science Techno Park; and Dr. Muhamad Sahlan, S.Si., M.Eng., Head of the Innovation Entrepreneurship Unit (WIN). This activity aims to strengthen innovation within the FTUI community and provide material dissemination for FTUI lecturers regarding the submission of IPR and reverse engineering grants within the UI environment.

The first session was delivered by Ms. Rani. She stated, “Intellectual property is an exclusive right granted by law or regulation to an individual or group of individuals over their works or inventions. IP protection is beneficial for lecturers or researchers, among other things, to obtain royalty rights without having to make agreements and creators/inventors can devote more thoughts and energy to the implementation and development of potentially IP-related research.”

Meanwhile, the second session was delivered by Mr. Krisnayanto. In his presentation, he said, “The procedure for applying for intellectual property registration is divided into three stages, namely the preliminary stage, the advanced stage, and the registration stage with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property. Registering an invention with the DGIP before publishing it is crucial to avoid others from making the same invention.”

“Reverse Engineering (Re-Engi) Center is a unit that contributes to product development by collaborating with industry partners. Re-Engi offers reverse engineering services, consultations, and product validation tests,” said Dr. Muhamad in presenting the final session.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU., said, “The existence of this activity is in line with one of the Entrepreneurial Dean’s strategies, which is to enhance the quality of high-impact innovation research, community service, and public services. IPR is something important for us to know considering we often innovate and invent. Therefore, it is hoped that this training and socialization will be beneficial for us, especially FTUI lecturers.”
