On (21–25/11/22), the City Government of Depok in collaboration with the Dutch Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) Research Team conducted a Historical City Landscape Training. This activity presented several well-known speakers from the Netherlands, namely Peter Timmer and Jacqueline Rosbergen from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science, as well as HE Lambert Grijns, Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia.
Several speakers from Indonesia were also present; such as Hesti Dipoyono Congregation, Indonesian Diaspora in the Netherlands, and Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, Professor of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (DA FTUI). There are also several other partners from the Cornelis Chastelein Foundation (YLCC), Trisakti University, IPB University, and the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII).
In this HUL Training, the Deputy Mayor of Depok, Imam Budiarto said that “Depok City has various historical relics, especially Dutch history. It becomes interesting when these historical heritages can be further reviewed to explore the tourism potential of this city. This has certainly made Depok City has high enthusiasm for the advancement of city development. In addition, with this HUL Training, it is also hoped that it can mobilize heritage, both tangible and intangible, as development assets. The City Government of Depok has also made efforts to form a team of experts certified officially by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Indonesian Research and Technology for the advancement of urban development.”
With all its dynamics, Depok City is an area with various historical heritages that deserve to be maintained and preserved. Good and correct management is needed for the preservation of these historical assets.
“The Dutch not only have the goal of strengthening relations with the city of Depok but also want to dig deeper into the various historical heritages in this city. For this reason, cooperation with various parties is needed, both in terms of tourism, academics, and the community for the advancement of this city,” explained Lambert Grinjs, Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia.
“The Historical City Landscape Approach is carried out to preserve the quality of the human environment, increase the sustainable use of urban space, recognize the dynamic character and promote social diversity and its functions. Through this HUL Training it is hoped that it can become a bridge of synergy between various parties for the advancement of the historical asset development of Depok City,” said Prof. Pack Ridwan Kurniawan
In this series of HUL Training activities, a visit was also made to the original Dutch heritage house in Depok City, named Rumah Cimanggis. The visit was attended by the Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia who was accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Depok.
