In order to provide socialization regarding the new student admissions process, UI held a series of UI Open Days events. This online event is the result of joint work between the Bureau of Public Relations and Public Information Disclosure (Humas and KIP) with all PR in faculties, vocational schools, and graduate schools at UI.
This year, the University of Indonesia (UI) opens student admissions through several channels, including the National Selection for State Universities (SNMPTN), Joint Selection for State University Entrance (SBMPTN), UI Entrance Selection (SIMAK), Talent Scouting, Achievement and Equity. Learning Opportunities (PPKB), and Achievement Paths.
Different from the previous year, UI Open Days started with a quiz competition which was recently held and was attended by representatives of high school students from several regions in Indonesia. The representatives of SMAN 46 Jakarta won the prizes for testing students’ knowledge about UI.
As the main prize, the students who won the quiz competition were given the opportunity to visit several faculties within the University of Indonesia, including FTUI. During the visit, the students were invited to visit and try the FTUI Smart Classroom facilities, the FTUI Chemical Engineering Department laboratory, the i-CELL Building laboratory, and the FTUI innovation product exhibition.
Secretary of UI, dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D., in her remarks at the Opening Ceremony of the UI Open Days on day 1, said that the UI Open Days aim to convey information on the new student admission system and the lecture system at UI for prospective new students. “The presence of UI Open Days is motivated by the desire to open communication between those who want to join as part of the big family of UI academics in order to obtain information directly from the faculty of their dreams,” said Agustin.
In his presentation session, the Selection Coordinator of the UI Admissions Office, Mikael Januardi Ginting, S.T., said, “Besides the regular program, there are parallel program options and international classes. In the International Class S1, there are several study programs with a choice of Single Degree and Double Degree classes. In the Single Glass class, students can take part in a student exchange program for 1-2 months, while in the Double Degree class, students get semester credit units (SKS) until they get a degree from a partner university.”
Mikael also conveyed tips for facing the SIMAK UI exam for prospective students, “There is a blocking method that participants must recognize. For example, we start the exam at 08.00. After 20 minutes of working on the Basic Mathematics questions, participants cannot return to the previous questions and must continue to the Indonesian language questions. So pay attention and really prepare a strategy in working, don’t get stuck in difficult questions,” said Mikael.
The 2nd day of UI Open Days was filled with presentations from representatives of faculties and schools at UI. The UI Faculty of Engineering got a presentation session on the second day. In this presentation, the Manager of Public Communication and General Administration of FTUI, Tikka Anggraeni, S.Sos., M.Sc., CPR. describe the details of the education program, starting from the vision and mission, information on admission selection, available study programs, education costs.
Met on a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU hopes that the UI Open Days activities can be used by prospective UI students in general and prospective UI students in particular. “The changes that occur in the entrance routes are usually confusing for prospective students. UI Open Days can provide clear information for them to consider in choosing the desired major.”
