Back to Q1 Position, International Journal IJTech FTUI Adds Multidisciplinary Research Field

The International Journal of Technology (IJTech) has once again become the highest quartile indexed journal (Q1) according to the Scimago Journal & Country Rank (SJR) ranking released in April 2024. This achievement repeats the previous accomplishment in 2019. For 14 years, IJTech, owned by the Faculty of Engineering (FT) at the University of Indonesia (UI), has been publishing quality articles indexed nationally and internationally.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, stated, “Initially, IJTech only published articles in three research fields, namely Management of Technology and Innovation, Strategy and Management, and Engineering (miscellaneous). Along with the development of national and global research, in mid-2024, IJTech added the category “Multidisciplinary” to accommodate multidisciplinary and collaborative research related to sustainable development. In this category, based on SJR ranking, IJTech is the only international journal in Indonesia that has successfully entered Q1.”

An increasing number of published articles also marks the expansion of research fields. In the early days, IJTech presented 2 issues with 10 articles in each issue. Now, there are 8 issues with 20 articles in each issue. This places IJTech as a Q1 journal in Indonesia with the highest number of articles, namely 170 articles throughout 2023. In addition, the comparison of articles published domestically and internationally by IJTech is 40:60 with a rejection rate of around 30%.

According to the editor-in-chief of IJTech, Prof. Dr. Yudan Whulanza, S.T., M.Sc., the return of IJTech to the highest quartile results from hard work and continuous improvement from the Editorial Board team over time. “Administrative improvements to the IJTech journal continue to be made under the auspices of the UKK Veritas Technologia FTUI. These improvements are expected to make the management of the IJTech journal more professional, accountable, and focused on improving journal quality,” he said.

In addition to IJTech, FTUI also has the international journal Interiority which has consistently maintained its Q1 position in the SJR journal ranking for the last three years. Unlike IJTech, Interiority focuses on articles in four research fields: Architecture, Arts and Humanities (miscellaneous), Cultural Studies, and Visual Arts and Performing Arts.

According to the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), Indonesia currently has 9,906 journals from 1,441 publishers. Of this number, when examined using the Scimago Journal & Country Rank (SJR), Indonesia has 169 journals indexed by Scopus as internationally reputable journals with rankings from Q1 to Q4 as well as Q Un-indexed.

Scopus uses a ranking parameter called SJR. SJR is calculated based on the average number of citations per article published in a journal in the last three years from the Scopus database. In evaluating journals, Scopus makes a clustering of journal quality divided into 4 quartiles, namely Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4. Q1 is the highest-quality cluster in terms of journal quality, followed by Q2, Q3, and Q4.
