FTUI Expands Collaboration Opportunities with the University of Sydney

FTUI welcomed a visit from the University of Sydney (USyd) to explore collaboration opportunities between the two institutions on April 4th.

Prof. Ken Tye Yong, Associate Dean for External Engagement at the University of Sydney, stated that the Faculty of Engineering at USyd is currently the number one engineering school in Australia. “We have seven schools: Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering; Biomedical Engineering; Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering; Civil Engineering (with research focuses in Structures and Materials, Fluid and Wind, and Transportation); Computer Science; Electrical and Computer Engineering; and Project Management.”

Prof. Ken Tye Yong also offered incentives such as scholarships for the Ph.D. program, which involves collaboration with industries. The role of industries in this program is to co-fund by providing funding support for stipends. Additionally, USyd provides tuition fee waivers, allowing students to conduct industry-related research remotely for up to 6 months at USyd, without having to be present in Sydney.

“FTUI is very open to collaboration with external partners. This is our step towards developing international standards and expanding cooperation with several of UI’s partner foreign universities in various countries, including Australia, Malaysia, and the UK,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., Head of the Education Modernization, Planning, and Supervision Unit.

After the discussions, both parties agreed to proceed with the drafting of an Agreement of Implementation (AoI). They also discussed aligning FTUI’s latest curriculum with USyd, especially regarding Ph.D. scholarships and internships at USyd for UI students, and vice versa. Additionally, Prof. Harinaldi proposed scholarships from the ministry for a fast-track Master-Ph.D. program within four years, in collaboration with USyd.

On a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU., stated, “This is a concrete step for FTUI to expand our cooperation network. We hope that this collaboration will not only enrich the academic experience of our students and staff but also result in innovative research that benefits the wider community. May the collaboration between FTUI and USyd bring significant benefits to both parties.”

Prof. Ken Tye Yong was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs. Prof. Yanuar was accompanied by Dr. Nyoman Suwartha, S.T., M.T., M.Agr., Education Manager; Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC, Head of the International Office; and Dr. Basari, S.T., M.Eng., Chair of the Biomedical Engineering Study Program.
