Eight Study Programs at FTUI Achieve International Accreditation from IABEE

FTUI once again marks an achievement by obtaining international accreditation from the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE) for 8 (eight) study programs.

To ensure that its graduates are prepared to compete in the real world, FTUI regularly updates the accreditation of its study programs. In the past year of 2023, eight programs underwent assessment to achieve international accreditation from IABEE. These eight programs are Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, and Industrial Engineering, and the accreditation results were announced in April 2024. This year, FTUI is also preparing to register Electrical Engineering and Naval Architecture for IABEE re-accreditation.

“Nearly all study programs at FTUI are internationally certified by IABEE, which is an outstanding achievement for FTUI that receives international recognition. With this certification, FTUI graduates will receive substantial equivalent recognition from Washington Accord signatory countries. This solidifies FTUI’s status as the best engineering campus in Indonesia,” expressed Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, as the Dean of FTUI.

The IABEE accreditation process takes approximately one year, involving a series of stages from filling out forms, registration, evaluation, visits, and decision meetings, to the announcement of evaluation results. All these stages are conducted both online and offline. After obtaining accreditation, the study programs will hold the certification for the next 2 to 5 years.

“Congratulations and thank you to all academic community members at FTUI who have worked hard so that our study programs can achieve this international accreditation. This spirit must be continuously improved so that FTUI can continue to achieve outstanding results and provide a broad and positive impact on society,” Prof. Heri expressed with full appreciation.

IABEE is a non-profit international accreditation institution in Indonesia that uses the international standards of the Washington Accord (WA). IABEE was established as part of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) to foster a culture of quality in higher education management in the engineering and computing fields.

The Washington Accord is a multilateral agreement that governs the equivalence of various independent accreditation institutions from abroad for engineering programs. Currently, the Washington Accord has 20 signatory countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Russia, Japan, China, India, Turkey, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Malaysia.
