The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), continues to expand its global network by exploring potential collaboration with International Internships, an organization that provides international internship programs connecting students and recent graduates with institutions worldwide.
The exploratory meeting took place on Thursday (April 30) in the Senate Meeting Room, Dean’s Building, FTUI. Representing FTUI were Ir. Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Manager of Partnership and International Education, along with department heads and secretaries. Meanwhile, representatives from International Internships included Arsya Gemelia Adina and Indah Meita Sari.
During the meeting, International Internships introduced two flagship programs: the engineering internship and the capstone project, both designed to provide cross-cultural work and research experiences for students.
The engineering internship program is intended for international students, particularly from Australia, to undertake internships in Indonesia for a duration of 8 to 12 weeks (up to a maximum of three months). All administrative requirements, such as visas, accommodation, and supporting activities, are facilitated by the organizing institution. FTUI, as the host institution, plays a role in providing supervisors, preparing job descriptions, and offering guidance throughout the program.
FTUI is also expected to provide a supportive working environment, including clear task assignments, supervision, and adequate workspace facilities. This is essential to ensure a structured and professional internship experience for participants.
In addition, the capstone project program offers a form of research collaboration. This program runs for eight months, with one month conducted in Indonesia and the remaining period carried out online. Project proposals will be submitted starting in March, followed by a matching process in August, before being assigned to students and faculty members based on their respective areas of expertise. As part of this program, lecturers from RMIT University are also planned to be involved in joint research activities.
The Dean of FTUI, Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, emphasized that this collaboration represents an important step in enhancing students’ global exposure.
“This collaboration opens opportunities for students to gain international experience that is relevant to current industry needs. Through cross-cultural interaction and involvement in real-world projects, students will not only improve their technical competencies but also develop adaptability and global communication skills that are essential in today’s era,” he stated.
As a follow-up to the meeting, each department within FTUI will conduct further online discussions with International Internships to explore program implementation in greater detail, including project development and supervisor readiness.
Through this initiative, FTUI once again demonstrates its commitment to delivering globally competitive education while creating international collaboration opportunities that provide tangible benefits for both students and faculty members.
