FTUI Opens International Class Programs in Computer Engineering and Environmental Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering (FT) of the University of Indonesia (UI) has opened two new study programs for new students in 2024 for the Bachelor’s International Class education level, namely Computer Engineering and Environmental Engineering. With this addition, FTUI currently offers 11 International Class study programs that prospective new UI students can choose for the academic year 2024/2025.

FTUI Dean Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., stated that the opening of the International Class programs in Computer Engineering and Environmental Engineering reaffirms FTUI’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education and offering internationally standardized learning experiences. “With a focus on continuously evolving curricula, international collaboration, and emphasis on technological innovation, these two programs will not only strengthen FTUI’s reputation as a quality educational institution but also open doors for wider international recognition for our alumni in the global industry and academia,” said Prof. Heri.

The Computer Engineering and Environmental Engineering study programs have been open since 2006 for the Regular Bachelor’s education level and have been accredited Excellent by LAM Teknik. Both programs also have international accreditation from The Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE). The Computer Engineering Program is a specialized discipline that combines knowledge and competencies in hardware, software, and other digital electronic devices as well as network connectivity related to computer system engineering and cybersecurity.

The Head of the Computer Engineering Program, Dr. lr. Muhammad Salman, S.T., M.I.T., expressed his hopes regarding the opening of this program. “Graduates of the International Class Computer Engineering program are expected to be able to design information networks and computer-based systems systematically following professional ethics. Many Computer Engineering graduates are now developing careers as embedded system/IoT engineers, AI and application developers, big data analysts, network engineers, including those involved in cybersecurity,” said Dr. Muhammad Salman.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Engineering program emphasizes engineering aspects through the discipline of Environmental Engineering, which encompasses aspects of engineering in the planning, design, construction implementation, and management of facilities/infrastructure. Mastery of Environmental Engineering knowledge is one of the important aspects of environmental-conscious construction planning and implementation, which will ultimately support sustainable development.

“The global transition towards a circular economy system from a linear economic model has resulted in significant transformations in the employment structure, where it is estimated that jobs in the Renewable Energy and Waste Management sectors will increase by up to 70% by 2030, a rapid growth compared to other sectors. In facing these challenges, we have prepared this program with the support of experienced instructors in their fields, complete environmental laboratory facilities, and reliable IT infrastructure,” said Dr. Cindy Rianti Priadi, S.T., M.Sc., Head of the Environmental Engineering Program at FTUI.

Since 1999, FTUI has been organizing the Joint/Double Degree International Class Bachelor’s Program. This program provides opportunities for FTUI students to obtain high-quality education at the best engineering campuses in Indonesia and abroad. Then, in 2011, FTUI expanded its international education by opening the Single Degree program, where students can study at partner universities abroad for at least one semester and graduate with a bachelor’s degree from UI.

This year, the Joint Degree partnership between FTUI and Monash University is open for Computer Engineering and Environmental Engineering with a 2+2 year scheme. Head of the FTUI International Office Fadhilah Muslim S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC., said, in this scheme, students will study for two years at FTUI and two years at Monash University. Later, students of this joint degree program will receive two bachelor’s degrees from UI and Monash University. The age limit for applicants for the international class program is five years after graduating from high school, and English is used as the language of instruction in their lectures.

Furthermore, as a manifestation of close cooperation with FTUI, Monash University also provides scholarships to FTUI students. These scholarships are provided in the form of an AUD 20,000 tuition fee waiver for the first two years of study at Monash University. The existence of this scholarship is one form of accommodation for FTUI students to access academic and professional experiences internationally.

The birth of these two new programs complements the nine existing international class undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Architecture, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Naval Architecture Engineering, and Bioprocess Engineering.

Registration for the international class program can be done through achievement-based admission – Talent Scouting, or through a written test – SIMAK UI KI. The Talent Scouting pathway will be open from February 28 to March 22, 2024, while the SIMAK UI KI pathway will start from June 19 to July 3, 2024, with the test scheduled for July 8. Complete information regarding this program can be accessed through www.eng.ui.ac.id, www.international.eng.ui.ac.id, and the SIMAK UI website (https://simak.ui.ac.id). Meanwhile, registration can be done through the website http://penerimaan.ui.ac.id.
