Becoming an ASEAN Level Hub, FTUI is Ready to Develop Cyber ​​Security Human Resources in Southeast Asia

“The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) is ready to contribute to producing superior human resources in the field of cybersecurity and productive research, as well as having an impact on providing solutions to cybersecurity problems in this country. FTUI is also preparing to serve as a hub for ASEAN cybersecurity capacity building,” said the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU when opening the Investment and Security Human Resources Development Seminar. This seminar was held as a series of events for the 58th FTUI Anniversary, on Thursday, July 21, 2022 and is part of the JICA-FTUI cooperation activities.

Prof. Heri also said that the increasing cyber threat to national security and defense cannot be faced alone. “Multidisciplinary cooperation and interaction is needed because cybersecurity is not only related from the technology side, but also related to other aspects, such as the legal, social, humanities, health, economic, political, and so on, including the triple helix cooperation between universities, government and industry are very important to strengthen national cybersecurity capacity in the future. Hopefully, FTUI can participate and contribute more to have an impact on the advancement of cybersecurity in Indonesia.”

The seminar which was organized by the FTUI business unit, Center for Computing and Information Technology (CCIT-FTUI) took place at the Royal Kuningan Hotel, Jakarta. This event was supported by the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia and the National Cyber ​​and Cyber ​​Agency (BSSN) represented by the Head of the Center for Professional Development and Certification, Kominfo Dr. Ir. Hedi Idris, M.Sc.; and Director of Cybersecurity and Password Governance Policy, BSSN, Nunil Pantjawati, B.Sc, M.E.

The seminar was attended as resource persons from professional and academic circles, Agus Wicaksono, CEO & Co-Founder of Alumnia Sinergi Adikarsa and Board of Advisors iCIO Community – Indonesian Association Chief Information Officer, Prof. Toshihiro Hirayama (JCIC – Japan Cybersecurity Innovation Committee), Dr. Muhammad Salman (Chairman of the FTUI Computer Engineering Study Program, JICA-FTUI Cooperation Project Manager, and idCARE.UI Board) and Dr Ruki Harwahyu (JICA-FTUI Vice Project Manager, idCARE.UI Board).

At the peak of the FTUI Anniversary on July 18, 2022, FTUI has launched idCARE (Indonesia Cyber ​​Awareness and Resilience Center), which is a study and research center in the field of Cyber ​​Security (http://idcare.ui.ac.id). idCARE also organizes various training and certification programs in the field of cybersecurity. Currently, FTUI is collaborating with JICA in the “Human Resources Development for Cybersecurity Professional” project to produce professional resources in the field of cyber security until 2025. Various activities carried out include joint-curriculum development for cybersecurity, training for trainers, professional certification , and development of open source tools.

Various trainings were carried out for ASEAN countries that were just growing their cybersecurity, such as Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Timor Leste. Apart from JICA, FTUI’s current strategic partnerships include BSSN, Kominfo, Keio University, CompTIA, EC-Council, Cisco, AWS, Alibaba, Huawei as well as various industries, ministries and other institutions in the critical information infrastructure sector.
